The other day I came across a
picture of Rihanna in Thailand. She looked beautiful as she usually does. When
skimming the comments I came across one that said (and I’m paraphrasing) She’d
be prettier without the tattoos. That got me to thinking of a conversation I
had with a friend a few weeks ago. They were saying they liked tattoos in small
doses. They didn’t too much care for the full-blown tatted from head to toe
look.
I’d like to know, when it
comes to tattoos, how many is too many and is there such thing as TOO many? I
personally LOVE tattoos. I’ve got 5 of them and want a helluva lot more! Each
of mine has a significant personal meaning and symbolizes something I was
dealing with at a point in my life. On the flip side, I think a man with
tattoos is sexy as hell. The more/bigger the better. Would I still love my
husband if he didn’t have any tattoos? I sure would but each one was a
conversation piece that caught my interest.
How is it in 2013 people are
still looking down at others that adorn themselves with body art? Because
Rihanna or any other woman choses to mark her body does it really make her any
less attractive? If she were fully clothed and never showed her tattoos the
person that left that comment would then think she was beautiful. Right?
When I look at someone’s
tattoos I see them as an accessory just as I would a necklace. I definitely
don’t think, damn that girl just devalued herself with that cross tattoo on her
arm. What the hell do I care? I feel the same people that are against tattoos
are the same ones I see leaving mean comments about women that wear make up.
It doesn’t just stop at women
and tattoos thou. So
it’s for sure NOT a double standard. I just think society was just getting used to men and their tats then along came girl power and now we've got just as many as the guys do.
Tattoos have been around for
thousands of years. Some of the first people to have adorned their bodies were
the Ancient Egyptians. Reasoning for tattoos are the same now as back then. For
religious beliefs, a testimony of love and faith, status and beauty, but most
of all for personal reasons.
Do I think some people take
it too far? Not in the day and age we live in. There are people that make a
living and are known only because of their tattoos. Look at the guy who made it
to the Guinness Book of World Records and looks like a cat! Let’s not forget
about Kat Von D and all her tatted glory. Would we know who she was if it
wasn’t for her skills being hyped up by reality TV? Not unless she’s got
another skill as bad ass as being able to tattoo a portrait of someone’s loved
one practically any where on their body.
My point is this…. Tattoos or
not people are still beautiful. Body art makes you who you are. Each carefully
drawn tattoo tells a story about the person it’s on.
What I can’t explain is this…
nice post!! follow each other on GFC? :)
