Today I’m continuing on with Blogtober 2014 and today
the question is… What was my dream job when I was little and what is it now?
When I was younger I wanted to be everything that most
kids want to be, a Doctor, Lawyer and a singer. Well, I can’t stand the sight
of blood, I realize being a lawyer I may have to defend a guilty client and I
can’t carry a tune in a bucket so there goes all that.
I guess this would be a good time as any to explain how
I started designing clothes. When I was a teenager I always wanted to be a
model. Being 5’10 most people thought I either modeled or played basketball.
Ugh! Anyway, around 2007 I started modeling. I absolutely loved it! I soon
became friends with a few local designers that I modeled for.
I envied them because deep down I had always wanted to
be a clothing designer but I didn’t feel like I could do it because I didn’t
draw very well and couldn’t sew. So I just kept on modeling and helping other
people develop their lines. Eventually one of the designers I befriended
started mentoring me and even taught me how to sew.

Me in my last runway show. Modeling for Siobhan. |
I began making clothes here and there but didn’t do
anything with the pieces because I still felt I was lacking the knowledge I
needed to run a company. In 2010 I walked the runway during Tucson fashion week
for one of my favorite designers and the founder of Tucson fashion week. We got
to talking one day and she encouraged me to dive in and start my line. So in 2011
sink or swim I finally launched my clothing line during Tucson Fashion Week. It
was my first time at show as a designer instead of a model and it was a totally
different feeling. I loved every moment of it.

One of my favorite designs. |
Growing up I wanted to be a lot of things but now that I’m older I know there isn’t just one dream job. There are a lot of dream jobs and if we’re lucky enough we may just get to experience a few.
